Stephen Carpenter of Deftones is widely acclaimed for exploring innovative guitar textures, in the process shaping the foundation of the alternative metal genre. The latest iteration of his Signature Series LTD SC-608 Baritone arrives in a vivid Yellow finish, directly inspired by Stef’s ESP Custom Shop guitar, affectionately nicknamed “Chiquita.”
The SC-608 Baritone is an 8-string monster built on an extended 27” baritone scale length, providing the string tension necessary to hold massive, crystal-clear low-end frequencies (factory tuning: F#-B-E-A-D-G-B-E). Featuring a seamless Neck-Thru construction, the instrument pairs a solid mahogany body with a fast 3-piece maple neck. Its macassar ebony fingerboard boasts a 400mm radius, 24 Extra Jumbo frets, and a wide 54mm nut.
Pro-grade components guarantee tour-ready stability, including precision LTD locking tuners and a high-mass Hipshot hardtail bridge with a string-thru-body configuration.
Tonal versatility is supplied by a unique middle/bridge set of direct-mounted Fishman Fluence SRC Signature 3-Voice active pickups. Utilizing a 5-way pickup selector alongside a push-pull volume control for voice selection, players can effortlessly toggle between 3 distinct voicing profiles — shifting from high-output heavy crunch to articulate, open single-coil and humbucker textures. The guitar comes complete with an ESP form-fit hardshell case designed specifically for 8-string models.
