"Slip and Destroy!": Kirk Hammett Takes a Spill Off the Stage During Metallica's Dublin Concert
July 9, 2026, 9 a.m.
A dramatic moment unfolded during Metallica's concert in Dublin when guitarist Kirk Hammett unexpectedly lost his footing and fell directly into the front row of fans. The incident took place on June 19 in front of nearly 40,000 concertgoers, but the legendary guitarist quickly recovered, climbed back on stage, and continued performing without missing a beat.

There is no question that Kirk Hammett is one of heavy metal's most accomplished and technically gifted guitarists. However, when it comes to staying on his feet, he has occasionally had less luck. After suffering a leg injury onstage back in 2023, the Metallica guitarist once again found himself making headlines—this time after taking an unexpected tumble into the audience.
The incident happened at Dublin's Aviva Stadium during a performance of the band's classic anthem Seek & Destroy. Hoping to give fans in the front row a closer look at his playing, Hammett stepped right to the edge of the stage. Unfortunately, the move ended with a little more fan interaction than anyone expected.
Video footage shows the guitarist edging closer to the crowd as enthusiastic fans cheer him on. Moments later, he suddenly slips and falls headfirst into the people gathered below the stage. Fortunately, those in the front row reacted immediately, catching and supporting him before helping him safely back onto the stage.
Despite the dramatic fall, Hammett appeared completely unfazed. He quickly resumed playing and finished the performance without any visible signs of injury. His humorous reaction afterward suggested he escaped unharmed. Just hours later, he shared a video of the mishap on Instagram with the caption:
"SLIP AND DESTROY!!!!"
Longtime followers of Hammett know this isn't entirely out of character. Numerous videos online capture the guitarist slipping on his wah pedal, losing his balance for seemingly no reason, or unexpectedly ending up on the stage floor during performances.
The Dublin accident also wasn't the first memorable moment involving Hammett during the current leg of Metallica's M72 World Tour. Earlier, on June 13, the guitarist attracted attention for wearing a humorous T-shirt featuring the phrase "Taylor Swift Is A CIA Psyop," which quickly sparked discussion among fans and across social media.
Looking ahead, Metallica will continue the M72 World Tour with its signature two-night performances in each city, ensuring that no songs are repeated between the two shows. The band is scheduled to perform additional concerts across the United Kingdom throughout the remainder of June and into July, with upcoming stops in Cardiff, Glasgow, and London.
