A New Chapter for Metal Titans: Why IRON MAIDEN’s Deal with the Creator of ABBA Changes Everything

The Swedish enterprise Pophouse, established by the legendary guitarist of the iconic pop quartet ABBA, Björn Ulvaeus, has officially acquired a 50 percent stake in the publishing and songwriting rights of British heavy metal heavyweights IRON MAIDEN. Alongside their extensive musical catalog, the parties split 50-50 ownership over the commercial rights to use the band’s iconic name, its distinctive visual identity, and the likenesses of the band members themselves. Financial specifics of this massive transaction remain strictly confidential, leaving open the pressing question of who holds the ultimate tie-breaking vote—a critical detail in any 50-50 partnership.

One of the inaugural joint ventures between Pophouse and IRON MAIDEN materialized as The Infinite Dreams Museum Experience, showcased during the Eddfest festival. Conceived to celebrate the band’s monumental 50th anniversary, the exhibition draws direct inspiration from the anniversary book Infinite Dreams, chronicling the band's storied history primarily through the perspective of their immortal and menacing mascot, Eddie. To honor the occasion, organizers built an entire themed zone dubbed Maidenville, offering fans interactive attractions and immersive entertainment centered entirely around Eddie and the band's rich legacy.
As outlined in the official press release, this strategic partnership aims to unlock fresh creative avenues for the band, reinforce their bond with lifelong supporters, and introduce their legendary catalog to an entirely fresh demographic of listeners.
This collaboration extends far beyond traditional concert staging. Pophouse and IRON MAIDEN are already hard at work filming footage from their ongoing Run For Your Lives world tour for a major cinematic release. Future roadmaps point toward developing innovative interactive engagement formats with fans and constructing a dedicated digital universe centered around Eddie.
Jessica Koravos, CEO of Pophouse, shared her perspective on the landmark agreement:
— We have become true, equal partners with the band on a 50-50 basis. Our primary objective now is to collaborate closely and radically accelerate the execution of all future endeavors for IRON MAIDEN. IRON MAIDEN possesses immense potential to build entire immersive worlds derived from both their breathtaking artwork and the narrative depths of their song lyrics. Heavy metal, especially when anchored by a character as iconic as Eddie, is a phenomenal fit for gripping horror-genre projects.

IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Sмоллвуд (Rod Smallwood) also offered his insights regarding the agreement:
— I am genuinely thrilled about our alliance with Pophouse and the incredible doors it opens for executing, backing, and funding our numerous plans and concepts at a pace we could never have achieved independently. Fans can rest assured: MAIDEN still has a tremendous amount in store for the future. And Eddie is definitely going to reign supreme!
Pophouse has been heavily investing in music catalogs, spending hundreds of millions of dollars over recent years to acquire the intellectual property rights of iconic artists such as KISS, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Avicii, and Swedish House Mafia.
As for the legendary British metal institution, IRON MAIDEN was founded in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, who is also the principal songwriter. Over the course of their storied career, the band has sold more than 100 million copies of their albums and performed over 2,000 live shows.
