Small Size, Big Tone: Reviewing the Blackstar TV-10 AH & TV-10 BH Amp Heads
May 18, 2026, 9 a.m.
Can these compact amps truly deliver iconic US and UK tones?
Since its founding in 2007, Blackstar has built a reputation for affordable amps packed with modern features like IR outputs and USB control. However, in 2024, the company shifted direction with the release of the minimalist TV-10 A combo, promising authentic American tones with vintage styling.

Later came the EL34-powered TV-10 B with a British voice. Now in 2026, both models are available as compact amp heads — the TV-10 AH and TV-10 BH — with matching cabinets.
Simplicity that surprises
At first glance, these amps seem almost too simple. But once you plug in, expectations quickly change.
Visually, both setups are striking. The blonde TV-10 AH clearly nods to classic Fender aesthetics, while the deep blue TV-10 BH carries a refined British vibe.
Build quality is excellent, with thoughtful details throughout. The amps use tubes from TAD (Tube Amp Doctor), adding to their credibility.
Design philosophy: pure tone focus
Each amp uses a single power tube:
- 6L6 (TV-10 AH)
- EL34 (TV-10 BH)
Both operate in Class A, delivering touch sensitivity and harmonic richness, though with reduced clean headroom.
Controls are minimal:
- Master
- Reverb
- Tone
- Gain
- Drive switch
Additional features include:
- cab-emulated output
- Drive footswitch
- 8 and 16-ohm speaker outputs
TV-10 AH: classic American sparkle
With a Fender Telecaster, the amp immediately delivers a recognizable American twang. The tone is responsive and smooth, taming the sharpness of the bridge pickup.
The highs are bright yet controlled, and the onboard reverb adds a convincing spring-like ambience.
During a recording session with Russel Kitchin, this Blackstar setup was used more frequently than several Fender amps.
With humbuckers, the amp offers smooth overdrive and plenty of gain when boosted.
The Celestion Type-A speaker contributes a softer midrange, reducing harshness while slightly limiting projection.
TV-10 BH: British punch and crunch
Using a Gibson Les Paul, the TV-10 BH delivers a fuller midrange and stronger character.
Gain ranges from:
- clean tones
- to classic crunch
- to saturated vintage-style overdrive
The Boost adds extra aggression, perfect for 80s and 90s rock tones.
Real-world usability
The effects loop performs well, especially with delay effects. However, the emulated output is less convincing and benefits from external IR processing.
A slight background hum was noticeable, though not problematic at normal volumes.
Final thoughts
Both amps shine in their own way. Blackstar has successfully distilled classic American and British tones into compact, affordable units.
They are ideal for:
- studio work
- rehearsals
- small gigs
For tighter low-end response, a closed-back cabinet may be preferable. Still, the defining feature of the TV series is its beautiful, expressive tube tone that makes you want to keep playing.
