Gibson Launches a Game-Changing Signature SG: The First-Ever Sadler Vaden Model Arrives

April 24, 2026, 9:15 a.m.

Gibson has officially unveiled the Sadler Vaden SG™ Standard — the very first signature guitar for acclaimed guitarist, producer, and songwriter Sadler Vaden, best known for his work with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.

Inspired by his trusted 2005 Gibson SG Standard, this new model captures the tone, feel, and personality of the instrument that has defined his sound for nearly two decades.

The story behind the guitar

Vaden’s original SG was discovered in Memphis, Tennessee, and gifted to him by producer Paul Ebersold after his band suffered a major gear theft in Philadelphia.

That guitar became the backbone of his sound ever since. It remains his go-to instrument on stage with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, and it directly shaped this new signature model.

The Gibson Sadler Vaden SG Standard is now available worldwide through authorized Gibson dealers, Gibson Garage locations, and official online platforms.

More than a collector’s item

According to Sadler Vaden, this guitar was never meant to be just a fan collectible:

“Sure, some fans will want it as a collector’s piece, but what really mattered to me was creating a great instrument. That guitar has always been a working tool for me. It was given to me so I could keep going, keep touring. My hope is that anyone picks it up — whether they know my music or not — and says, ‘This is a great guitar. It sounds amazing. I can use this live and in the studio.’ It’s a true workhorse. If a producer in Nashville needs an SG, they can grab this and do anything with it. I wanted it to be inspiring.”

A career built on versatility

Sadler Vaden’s journey reflects versatility, taste, and dedication to great songwriting. Before joining Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, he toured extensively with Drivin’ N’ Cryin’, developing the style that made him a sought-after collaborator.

As a producer, he has worked with artists like Morgan Wade, while his solo career includes critically acclaimed releases:

  • Radio Road (2012)
  • Sadler Vaden (2016)
  • Anybody out There? (2020)
  • Dad Rock (2024)

Throughout his GRAMMY®-winning career, the SG has remained central to his tone.

Design and craftsmanship

Faithfully modeled after his 2005 instrument, the guitar features a solid mahogany body with the iconic double-cutaway SG shape. The Natural Burst gloss nitrocellulose finish recreates the slightly aged look of his original guitar.

The mahogany neck is carved to his preferred Rounded profile, paired with a rosewood fretboard featuring 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic trapezoid inlays.

The headstock includes a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown, while a Graph Tech® nut and Vintage Deluxe tuners ensure reliable tuning stability.

A custom touch appears on the truss rod cover, which features Vaden’s initials instead of the standard SG marking.

Tone that delivers everywhere

The guitar is equipped with chrome hardware, including an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and stop bar tailpiece for precise intonation.

Its “batwing” pickguard houses Sadler Vaden Signature humbucker™ pickups with zebra coils and Alnico 2 magnets.

  • Neck pickup: warm, vintage clarity with moderate output
  • Bridge pickup: higher output with punch and midrange focus

Each pickup has independent volume and tone controls with black Top Hat knobs, along with a traditional three-way switch for tonal versatility.

Included extras

Every guitar comes in a brown hardshell case and includes exclusive accessories:

  • Sadler Vaden trading card
  • custom stickers
  • branded guitar strap
