The Birth of the Tele-Gib
More than fifty years ago, Seymour W. Duncan challenged conventional ideas about what a Telecaster® could become.
While working in London during the early 1970s, he created the very first Tele-Gib for Jeff Beck. The concept combined the straightforward design and feel of a Telecaster with the power, sustain, and tonal richness of humbucking pickups.
Not long afterward, Duncan refined the idea even further for his own personal instrument. Starting with a 1950s Fender body and neck, he introduced a number of modifications involving intonation, string spacing, and overall ergonomics to better suit his playing preferences.
That guitar would go on to serve as Seymour Duncan’s primary instrument for decades, both in the studio and on stage.
A Collaboration Between Two Industry Icons
Now, Seymour Duncan and Fender Custom Shop have joined forces to recreate that legendary instrument in a special limited-edition production run.
Every aspect of Seymour’s original guitar was carefully examined and painstakingly reproduced by the team at Fender Custom Shop.
The Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Seymour Duncan 50th Anniversary Telecaster® features a one-piece select ash body incorporating Seymour’s signature arm and belly contours. The guitar is finished in beautifully aged nitrocellulose lacquer that enhances its vintage character.
Its neck features a comfortable C-shaped profile designed to match the dimensions, taper, and playing feel of the original instrument as closely as possible.
To preserve the authentic Tele-Gib experience, the guitar is equipped with an aged gold Gibson Tune-o-matic® bridge and matching stopbar tailpiece. This configuration delivers the tuning stability and playing response that Seymour Duncan relied upon throughout his studio sessions and live performances.

Exclusive Pickups Based on Seymour’s Original Guitar
At the core of the instrument lies a unique version of the famous JB/Jazz pickup combination.
These pickups are faithful recreations of the set originally installed in Seymour Duncan’s personal Tele-Gib.
Each pickup set is hand-wound by Maricela “MJ” Juarez at the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop. They receive subtle aging treatment and are available exclusively on this anniversary model.
Unlike a standard production JB pickup, this version utilizes a slightly different bridge coil wire specification. Additionally, the magnets are carefully degaussed and adjusted according to Seymour Duncan’s personal tonal preferences.
To ensure complete authenticity, the guitar features a 500k Bourns volume potentiometer and a 250k CTS tone potentiometer, matching the exact electronic configuration found in Seymour’s original instrument.
The result is a familiar JB/Jazz voice with enhanced sensitivity, richer dynamics, and greater tonal nuance—faithfully capturing the sound and response of the original Tele-Gib.
A Collector’s Instrument with Historic Significance
