“Everyone kept saying, ‘I want to buy this guitar’”: how Orianthi’s backup request became a highly sought-after PRS Custom 24 signature

Private Stock Orianthi Limited Edition is based on Orianthi’s personalized Custom 24 — a guitar that was originally created as a bespoke instrument for the artist, before finding its way into the hands of devoted fans.

Orianthi has been playing PRS guitars since she was just 11 years old. Speaking to Premier Guitar, she recalls her early obsession with the brand:
“I was a very outspoken kid, and I told my dad, ‘I want a PRS.’ They are expensive in Australia, but I ended up getting one, and I still have it today. I just love these guitars.”

Given that lifelong connection, it was only natural for the acclaimed guitarist to receive her own signature PRS model. That vision became reality with the Private Stock Orianthi Limited Edition, which draws directly from her customized Custom 24. The guitar was initially built as a one-off instrument by the Private Stock team a few years ago, intended solely for her personal use.

As Orianthi explains, the project started simply as a practical solution:
Paul Reed Smith made me a guitar a long time ago in purple, and it was repainted about four times. I played it constantly and really wanted a backup.
So he made me another one as a backup, but it ended up becoming a signature model because everyone kept writing and saying, ‘I want to buy this guitar.’ We decided to make it available to everyone. They are not cheap, but they are absolutely worth it.”

One of the most striking elements of the guitar is its distinctive finish, known as Blooming Lotus Glow. The color features a radiant pink center that gradually fades outward into a deep purple tone, matching the look of Orianthi’s original custom-built instrument.

Further personalization can be seen in the fretboard inlays. Instead of the iconic PRS bird inlays, Orianthi chose a Lotus Vine design.
“These lotus flowers running down the neck are like my tattoo,” she says, explaining the inspiration behind the pattern. “I just love flowers, and my name actually means ‘flower’ in Greek.”

The Private Stock Orianthi Limited Edition followed Orianthi’s earlier signature collaboration with the Paul Reed Smith brand — the more affordable PRS SE Orianthi Signature Model, which was released in 2010 and introduced her signature sound to a much wider audience.
