PRS and John Mayer introduce bold new finishes for the SE Silver Sky and expand the Maple lineup
into PRS’s 40th anniversary celebrations — a year marked by the Maryland-based brand releasing new instruments every single month — the spotlight now turns to one of its best-selling models of all time: the PRS SE Silver Sky. The update arrives in the form of four striking new color options.

Since its debut in 2022, the more affordable version of the John Mayer signature guitar has sold in massive numbers. It topped Reverb’s list of best-selling guitars on multiple occasions, before eventually being overtaken by another hit from Paul Reed Smith — the Tele-inspired NF 53.
Last year saw the long-awaited release of a left-handed version, along with the introduction of the Faded Black Tee Satin finish. This time, however, the focus is firmly on brighter, more expressive tones: Derby Red, Trad Blue, Laurel Green, and Dandy Lion (yellow). The latter instantly evokes memories of Graffiti Yellow — the iconic color that Jeff Beck famously introduced to Fender players.

Despite the visual refresh, the core construction of the Silver Sky remains unchanged. The guitar still features a poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard adorned with PRS’ signature bird inlays. Its electronics are handled by three 635JM “S” single-coil pickups, while the familiar 25.5-inch scale length, 8.5-inch fretboard radius, two-point steel tremolo, and vintage-style tuners all carry over.

Thanks to the new finishes, these guitars now look more like classic Stratocasters than ever before. In addition, players who prefer a maple fingerboard can finally access several finishes that were previously exclusive to rosewood models, including Moon White, Stone Blue, Summit Purple, and Nylon Blue.
Explaining the inspiration behind the update, multi-Grammy-winning guitarist John Mayer says:
“The new Silver Sky SE lineup introduces four new colors inspired by traditional American fashion. These are time-tested hues that have remained popular for decades, and I am excited to share them with the world as the latest additions to the SE range.”
