Dimebag Darrell's Legacy Lives On: Estate Launches Dime GuitarZ with Dean Zelinsky Amid Ongoing Legal Disputes

The estate of legendary Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell has officially announced the launch of Dime GuitarZ, a new guitar brand created in partnership with renowned luthier Dean Zelinsky, the designer responsible for many of the guitarist's most iconic instruments.
The new venture arrives while legal battles surrounding Dimebag Darrell's guitar designs and legacy continue to unfold.
The dispute dates back to 2021, when In Dime We Trust, the organization led by Dimebag Darrell's longtime partner and estate trustee Rita Haney, filed a lawsuit against Dean Guitars. The complaint alleged unauthorized use of the guitarist's famous Stealth and Razorback body shapes, along with what the estate described as improper trademark registrations.
A recent court ruling favored Dean Guitars, although Rita Haney has confirmed that she intends to appeal the decision.
The timing of the Dime GuitarZ launch is particularly noteworthy, as it comes only days after Dean Guitars' parent company, Armadillo Enterprises, filed for bankruptcy protection.
The new company describes itself as the exclusive source for officially licensed Dimebag Darrell guitars. Its mission is straightforward:
"To build the guitars Dimebag Darrell would be playing today."
In its official announcement, the estate addressed what it believes is a common misunderstanding among guitar fans regarding Dimebag Darrell's relationship with today's Dean Guitars.
"There seems to be a misconception that Dime had a relationship with the Dean Guitars of today. That simply isn't true. He was tragically killed just three weeks after signing the agreement."
Instead, the estate emphasizes that Dean Zelinsky was the guitarist's true creative partner throughout the formative years of his career.
According to the statement, Dean Zelinsky was responsible for many of Dimebag Darrell's most beloved instruments, including the original ML guitars and the famous Dean From Hell.
The statement continues:
"His relationship was with Dean Zelinsky. He joined because DZ brought him there. That was Dime's real connection."
The estate further argues that Dean Zelinsky's craftsmanship played a central role in shaping Dimebag Darrell's musical identity.
"Dean Zelinsky built the guitars that Dimebag loved, including the legendary Dean From Hell. Those were the instruments he wanted to play, and he expressed that repeatedly in his personal notes. In this case, imitation isn't flattery—it's a violation."
Rita Haney added:
"Dimebag was playing Dean Zelinsky ML guitars back when he still had braces on his teeth, and he passed away with one in his arms. His passion for innovation and his complete trust in Dean Zelinsky's talent are exactly what this new company is built upon. Our goal is to honor those wishes."
Alongside the company's debut, Dime GuitarZ introduced its flagship model, the Culprit—a guitar based on a design originally conceived by Dimebag Darrell before his passing. The concept was first revealed publicly in March 2025.
The Culprit will be available in both USA Series and Standard Series

- Three-piece set maple neck.
- Ebony fingerboard with a 12–16-inch compound radius.
- Floyd Rose 1000 tremolo system.
- Seymour Duncan Dimebucker and Seymour Duncan '59 pickups.
- Grover-style tuning machines.
- Push/Push DimeBooster circuit delivering a 15dB output boost.
The premium USA Series models also feature Dean Zelinsky's patented Z-Glide neck treatment, engineered to reduce friction and allow for faster, smoother playing.
Visually, the guitars remain faithful to Dimebag Darrell's unmistakable style, offering finishes such as Dime Slime and Dimebolt, a razor blade inlay at the 12th fret, and the signature winged headstock design.
Reflecting on the project, Dean Zelinsky, who sold Dean Guitars in 1991 and permanently left the company in 2008, described it as one of the most meaningful achievements of his career.
"I've been incredibly fortunate to enjoy a long career in the guitar industry. But after everything I've accomplished, helping preserve Dimebag Darrell's legacy may ultimately become the most meaningful work I've ever had the privilege to do."
