“Everything you need to create truly iconic tones”:

Fractal has officially entered the plugin arena for the first time, making a major statement by launching ICONS and stepping into direct competition with industry heavyweights such as Neural DSP and IK Multimedia.

As one of the earliest innovators in amp modeling and multi-effects technology, Fractal has built a fiercely loyal following around its hardware lineup, which includes products like AM4, VP4, FM9, and beyond.

Until now, the company’s focus had been entirely on physical hardware. As a result, Fractal has long competed with platforms such as Neural DSP Quad Cortex, IK Multimedia TONEX, Fender Tone Master Pro, and Line 6 Helix, as competition in the digital guitar space has intensified dramatically in recent years.

With ICONS, Fractal now expands into the software domain, bringing its highly regarded amp modeling and effects into a native plugin designed for DAWs and desktop use.

This release marks the first chapter in a broader plugin strategy. Over time, the ICONS lineup is expected to position Fractal as a serious rival to Neural DSP’s Archetype series, Line 6 Helix Native, and IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube ecosystem.

The plugin will also go head-to-head with established platforms like Universal Audio Paradise Guitar Studio and Positive Grid Bias.

That said, Fractal occupies a unique and powerful position in the market. The arrival of its world-class modeling technology as a native plugin—something users have awaited for years—is an especially enticing development.

The inaugural release in the series is titled Fullerton and includes 36 US-style amplifiers. In essence, it delivers an expansive collection of Fender-inspired amp models, spanning the tonal evolution from 1950s Tweeds through 1960s Black Panels, 1970s Silver Panels, and beyond.

At a glance, the range is impressively comprehensive, featuring amps inspired by Princeton, VibroVerb, Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, Super, and many more. As with Fractal’s hardware, these are fully interactive analog-style models—not captures—complete with detailed tone-shaping controls.

The amps are paired with carefully selected DynaCabs, along with an extensive suite of stompbox and studio effects lifted directly from Axe-Fx. More than a dozen drive pedals, plus delays, reverbs, modulation effects, and EQs, are included.

As a modular plugin series, ICONS leaves ample room for expansion and future development, and its debut suggests a highly promising direction.

“In short, ICONS delivers the sound and feel that Fractal Audio is known for, now available for your DAW or desktop, with everything you need to create truly iconic tones,” says Fractal.

ICONS is not an Axe-Fx in software form. Instead, it offers streamlined effect blocks and controls designed to make building complete, great-sounding rigs fast and intuitive, with the amp and cab at the center.”

The complete ICONS suite is available for $299.
